Dealings in the Council of Avalhein - Chapter 22

"You are strong but not enough to defeat me" said the disconcertingly sinister feminine voice as wave after wave of shadow erupted from the dark one's hands. The ground shook at the display of power as the source of the voice simply deflected them.

Strenth ebbed from the dark one's body and he sagged to his knees from the sheer effort of keeping up the barrage. Cracks formed underneath the dark one as he put more and more power into the stream of energy, but it was all in vain, the voice was simply too powerful. In the simple act of speaking the voice dispelled the magic.

"You hold much promise, elf, but you cannot hope to defeat me. Instead of wasting your energy fighting a battle that could not be won, you should just follow my orders" said the voice in a simple matter-of-fact tone. A brimstone scent wafted into the room upon a soft warm wind. The dark one felt a surge of power build up in him and he rose to his feet.

"It would do you well to walk outside and enjoy the breeze while it remains" said the voice as it dwindled and vanished. The dark one did as the voice said. A single pillar of light hung in the distance. He turned around to face his servant and said "Rally the troops for today, Avalhein shall fall!"
