Fyrespinner, a teaser

I know, I know, I haven't even finished the three running story-lines and I'm already starting another, well, I just had to get the idea out of my head.

Fyrespinner
-----

Fyrespinner, they called her, a formidable name, enough to strike fear into the hearts of even the most hardened criminals in her world, but not in the world of the mundane mortals, to whom it was simply odd. To him, though, she was known as his darling Freyja. For the last three weeks, the Fyrespinner has attempted to coax the magic out of him.

He didn't know what happened, just that one day he was talking to a strange woman wearing a strangely familiar dress and the next, he was falling irrevocably in love with her. Typically, he forgot about her, and it wasn't until he saw the neatly cut patterns on the lobby's tapestry did he realize why the woman's dress was so familiar.

That was three weeks before the present, and for the man, things have just gotten far stranger. This is the story of how the Fyrespinner found the most dangerous weapon born from the Goddess Lliena's ire and how she managed to fall in love with him and teach him how to weave.

Kite - Chapter 6: Black Sun

The pain I felt was exhilarating. It surged through my body and it seemed to burn every nerve as it leapt across my synapses. It was the ultimate joy for my people, death by murder. I raised my hands to the sky in appreciation. The bliss that was surging through me was immense, even as the red ichor ran down the golden lining of my cloak, pooling at my feet.

The world was silent and the breeze was still. The trees in the forests, the birds in the sky and even the ravens circling above the palace, everything seemed to be waiting for me to fall lifeless against the cold marble floor. A sadistic glint was in the beady eyes of the murder of ravens watching high above the gathering.

Envy was visibly painted on my people’s faces, as well as shock. Nobody even half-turned when a pained howl turned into a gurgling whimper. The guards had found the assailant and slit his throat. I fell to my knees in ecstasy but sank no lower.

I grabbed the arrow lodged in my chest and ripped it out, wincing slightly at the pain and brandished it, the metal head still dripping with blood. I ripped apart my vestment and revealed the wound on my chest. The wind began to pick up and a gasp ran across the crowd as it began to heal itself. Smiles broke out on the faces of my people, and as the wind rose to a howl, I stood. A cheer began to swell and soon it was louder than even the wind.

I stood tall and proud before them, gleaming crown of gold on my head. There was another crown around my temple, the gleaming circle of the black sun. I raised my hand to hush the people and slowly placed it around the hilt of my sword. As I drew it, the rasp of blade against scabbard filled the air. Aiming it at my abdomen, I plunged it in and a howl of pure joy ripped through the throats of the crowd.

Behind me I heard the ambassadors of the different nations retch in disgust. I heard the sounds of heavy chairs falling as the women fainted and the men scrambled to help them. Shouts of utter revulsion were muted and indiscernible to my ears. All that mattered at the moment was the joy of feeling alive.

And then it was to be known forever, immortalized in the annals of history, that on the day of my crowning, the kindred of sol, my people, experienced something that had never been felt before. Our need to feel alive, to feel the deep physical pain that everyone else detested had been satiated, at least for a while.

Months passed and none of the kindred felt the urge, but as the months turned to years, the urge slowly returned, stronger and faster than ever before. Eventually, even the daily wait for nighttime drove the weakest of us insane. There was chaos in the halls of the kin.

Using a Different Blogging App

The last blogging app I used for my personal blogging was blogger-droid. Unfortunately, it has started using airpush ads and unfortunately it sucks. It sucks bad.

So here I am using a new app called Bloggeroid. It's a different one, didn't you notice the missing hyphen?

Anyway, that's it.
